He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Hisako Nakagawa, and is survived by his sons, Stan (Jane Aiko Yamano) and Doug (Aimee) Nakagawa; granddaughters, Mia Aiko Yamano-Nakagawa, Skylar Jean Nakagawa, and Riley Grace Nakagawa; sisters, Reiko Nakamura and Hisae (Tom) Kotow; sister-in-law, Shimeko Nakagawa; also survived by many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A private funeral service was held on Sunday, December 2, 2018 at the West Los Angeles Buddhist Temple.
