Gen Sonoda died peacefully at his home in West Los Angeles at the age of 92. He was born in Gardena, California, the youngest child of Kensaburo and Hana (Iura) Sonoda. After high school he attended Compton Junior College and Art Center, where he studied photography. He became an accomplished photographer and served in theUS Army from 1941–1945 as a staff photographer. He had been an engineer with the City of Los Angeles for many years before his retirement. Gen was predeceased by his parents and all five of his siblings. He is survived by his close friend, Sydnie Craft, and many loving nieces and nephews and their families. The family is grateful to Sydnie and Adam for their friendship. Thefamily also appreciates the medical and hospice care given to Gen in his finaldays. At Gen’s request, there will be no service, but he has been cremated and his ashes will be placed at the Veterans’ Cemetery in West Los Angeles.
